Description This course provides an overview of the basic pharmacologic agents used to treat heart failure, including diuretics, renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitors, beta-adrenergic blockers, and other miscellaneous agents. Continuing Education Credit This course qualifies for 1.0 contact hours, which can be earned on this course until March 4, 2017. Course objectives After completing this course, the learner will be able to: describe the types, causes, and incidence of heart failure. list the signs and symptoms of heart failure. explain how basic pharmacologic agents are used in the treatment of heart failure. explain the mechanisms of action of the basic pharmacologic agents used to treat heart failure. list adverse reactions to these basic pharmacologic agents. identify nursing considerations necessary when managing care of patients with heart failure who are receiving basic pharmacologic agents.
